A week has gone by! Shoop! Just like that! Things that have been awesome:
We had scrumptious latkes at my sister-in-law's place. Mmm!
I'm off work for 9 days in a row but only have to take 3 days' vacation, thanks to Canadian civic holiday structure and some big Christian holiday or other they have this week. Oh, and New Year's.
We went to the Kensington Market festival of lights. Big parade in which we participated, with samba musicians, acrobats on stilts, multiple-storey-high costumes, puppeteers, fire breathers, fire dancers, a huge bonfire... It was just awesome. The kids loved it. Because we suck, we didn't take our camera along, but I've found some great photos (here, here and here) of last year's festival, which looked similar enough to give you a good idea of what it was like.
We had Keltie and Andrew over last night and watched Memento and ate cheap Chinese. We don't get to do that often enough. Chilling film. Provocative. I like.
This weekend, I get to do that joyous thing Jews have been doing for millenia: figure out what the heck to do on Xmas when everything is closed. Happily, we came up with a pretty good solution to that a few years back—we have standing plans to hunker down with another Jewish couple we know, rent a whole bunch of movies and eat junk food for 48 hours from the 24th through the 26th. Actually now that we all have kids it's a little more boring than that (usually involving us all falling asleep at each other out of exhaustion once the kids are in bed), but you get the idea. Then it's off to Ottawa for family and friend time.
Happy holidays!
